From looking to visual thinking.
Patrick Ceyssens questions the subcutaneous effect of images. In his artistic research he traces traces in images that go unnoticed at first glance. At the same time, he seeks new sensational areas by fusing different techniques.
Several layers intertwine in his oeuvre.
On the one hand, there is the theme of memory and its deceptive enchantment. He often works with parts from found photos or footage: everyday culture laden with emotion, which often capture poetic elements of reality precisely in their imperfection and open-mindedness.
On the other hand, he always creates a disturbance or a break: grids, folds, layers, parts of the image surface suddenly create a different perspective, literally and figuratively. In this way he uses the eyes, perception, memory and imagination of the viewer to create new work. The more he takes away, the more appears.
What he does is in fact a kind of frolic in a mind game between what we see, what we know and what we experience: image thinking.
